Great idea for Storytime with a group!

I got a call this week from a Mom in Wisconsin named Annette. She was calling me to order an Ahoy Pirate Pete! book for her daughter's birthday, and one each of Ahoy Pirate Pete and Once Upon a Time for her daughter's Kindergarten teacher. Apparently the copy of Once Upon a Time she already had was a big hit in the classroom that week. I loved how she shared this book with her daughter's class (which can be done with either of these stories), so I wanted to share with you too!

Annette's daughter's Kindergarten Class has a "star of the week" program, and on the week when the child is a star, the parents are invited to come into the class and read the child's favorite book to everyone. Annette's daughter chose Once Upon a Time, which is a 'choose your own adventure' kind of book - each page layout includes several moveable pieces that the child can choose from to create the story. The choices range from traditional to funny (Pirate Pete might look into the sky and see a seagull...or a donut!).

Annette had her daughter make up the story she wanted to share with the class the night before. While she was reading to the class, she polled the class with each change in the story to see how many children would have picked each of the choices if they had been designing the story. The class had a BLAST with the reading of this story, and the little girl who was that week's 'star' felt very, very special on her very special day!
